Skoda Citigo engine issues

I'm having trouble with my 2018 Skoda Citigo with a gasoline engine. It's exhibiting difficulty starting, a tendency to stall at idle, and the check engine light is on. Diagnostics suggest a defective camshaft sensor. My hypothesis is that the encoder wheel on the camshafts may be compromised, leading to the sensor failure. Any diagnostic advice or similar experiences?

Whoa, that sounds rough! My old Vauxhall Corsa (may it rest in pieces) had a similar spaz-out last year. Check engine light was on like a Christmas tree, and it kept stalling at every stop sign. The mechanic kept muttering something about a "crankshaft position sensor." Could it be related? Did you try any sensor testing?

Interesting. Crankshaft position sensor, you say? I haven't done any sensor testing myself; where should I look for it?

Yeah, pretty sure it's in the same ballpark. They're both sensors that tell the engine what's spinning and when. If the car's computer doesn't know that, things go haywire. I'm no expert, though. Best to get it checked out by a proper mechanic. That's what I did after messing around for a week!

I appreciate you sharing your experience! It seems like the encoder wheel on the camshafts was indeed the culprit. The dealership confirmed it. Unfortunately, the damage was beyond a simple sensor replacement. The total bill came to 695€. Ouch! But the Citigo is running smoothly again, so I suppose it was worth it.
