Skoda Citigo engine running lean

I am writing to inquire about a problem I am experiencing with my 2015 Skoda Citigo, gasoline engine. With a mileage of 239385 km, the engine seems to be running too lean. The symptoms include reduced engine power, the check engine light is now illuminated, rough engine running, and some rather unpleasant jerking when accelerating. I suspect a defective injection valve or injector. Could this diagnosis be correct, or are there other potential causes I should investigate prior to seeking professional assistance? I already checked the oxygen sensor and catalytic converter, and they seem to be working fine.

Summary of the thread

A 2015 Skoda Citigo with 239,385 km is experiencing a lean engine condition, characterized by reduced power, an illuminated check engine light, rough running, and jerking during acceleration. The initial suspicion is a defective injection valve or injector. After checking the oxygen sensor and catalytic converter, which were functioning properly, the issue was resolved by replacing a faulty injector, leading to smooth engine performance.

I have a Skoda Citigo as well. I experienced similar symptoms a while back. The check engine light illuminated, and the engine ran rough, especially when accelerating. Have you checked the spark plugs or the mass air flow sensor? These are common culprits.

Thank you for the suggestion. I have not checked the mass air flow sensor. Could you elaborate on how that might cause the engine to run lean? And what would be the best way to check it?

The mass air flow sensor measures the amount of air entering the engine. If it malfunctions and provides incorrect readings, the engine control unit (ECU) might calculate the incorrect amount of fuel to inject, leading to a lean condition. Regarding checking it yourself, it can be complicated without proper tools. Given that the check engine light is on, I would suggest taking it to a workshop. They can read the error codes and perform a proper diagnosis.

I appreciate the insight. It does indeed seem like the injectors were the issue. I took it to a workshop, and after replacing the faulty injector, the car is running smoothly again. The final bill came to 515€, which I suppose is the price to pay for peace of mind.
