Skoda Citigo Engine Running Unevenly

I've got a 2019 Skoda Citigo, gasoline engine, with about 83565 km on the clock. Recently, the engine has started running unevenly. The check engine light has come on, and I've noticed a bit of a jerking sensation when accelerating. It just doesn't feel smooth. Any ideas what might be causing this? Could it be something simple, or am I looking at a bigger problem? I have been reading about crankshaft sensor issues, but not sure if this could be the case.

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Skoda Citigo with a gasoline engine was experiencing uneven running, a check engine light, and jerking during acceleration. Initial concerns included a potential crankshaft sensor issue. Suggestions to diagnose the problem included checking the air filter and fuel injectors, and retrieving the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) using an OBD II scanner. Ultimately, the issue was identified as a crack in the exhaust manifold, which was repaired, resolving the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

That sounds concerning. An uneven engine running could stem from a few potential issues, especially with the check engine light illuminated and jerking during acceleration. Have you inspected the air filter recently? A clogged air filter can sometimes cause a rough idle and impact performance. Another possibility, although perhaps less likely, could involve the fuel injectors. Dirty or malfunctioning injectors can definitely lead to engine misfire and a general lack of smooth operation. Has the error code been read? Knowing the exact code would certainly aid in the diagnostic process.

Thanks for the reply. I did check the air filter, and it seemed okay, but I'm no expert. Fuel injectors sound a bit scary to mess with myself. What do you mean by 'error code'? Is that something I can check myself, or do I need special equipment?

If the air filter appears to be in good order, and you're hesitant about the fuel injectors (wise decision, by the way), let's consider other avenues. By 'error code,' I'm referring to the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) stored by the car's computer when the check engine light comes on. You would need an OBD II scanner to retrieve this code. While some auto parts stores offer free scans, it might be prudent to consult a trusted mechanic. Given the symptoms you've described, particularly the jerking and uneven running, my suspicion is now leaning towards a possible leak in the exhaust system. This could throw off the engine's air-fuel mixture and lead to the issues you're experiencing. It's all guesswork without the DTC. I suggest visiting a workshop for a proper diagnosis.

You were right, it was a leak in the exhaust system. I took it to a trusted mechanic, and they found a crack in the exhaust manifold. The repair cost me around 265€. It runs like new now, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
