Skoda Citigo Exhaust Flap Issue

I have a 2018 Skoda Citigo with a gasoline engine. There's an error stored, and the exhaust noise is louder than usual, especially a noisy engine running after cold start. I suspect the exhaust flaps are defective.

Louder exhaust noise and a stored error code related to the exhaust flaps often points to a failure in the exhaust components themselves. The exhaust flaps, sometimes called exhaust valves, are designed to manage backpressure. If they aren't working, the engine noise changes, especially on startup. Do you notice any changes in fuel consumption?

What does 'manage backpressure' mean, exactly? Is that related to a potential exhaust blockage?

Managing backpressure means the exhaust flaps control the flow of exhaust gases. They optimize engine performance. If they fail, the exhaust noise increases and the engine might run less efficiently. It's not necessarily a complete exhaust blockage, but the flaps aren't regulating the flow correctly. Given the symptoms, I'd suggest having a mechanic check the exhaust system.

Thank you for your input. I took it to a workshop. They confirmed the exhaust flap was defective and replaced it. The repair cost 190€, as expected.
