Skoda Citigo knock sensor issue

Alright, engine gurus, I've got a head-scratcher with my 2011 Skoda Citigo, gasoline engine. The malfunction indicator lamp popped on, and I'm pulling a knock sensor error code. Naturally, I'm seeing higher fuel consumption and some pretty uneven idling. Before I go throwing parts at it, I'm thinking it's a defective cable or plug connection to the component. Has anyone else wrestled with this particular gremlin? What diagnostic steps did you take before condemning the sensor itself? Is there anything beyond visual inspection and multimeter checks I should consider regarding the ignition timing?

I drive a Citigo as well, and experienced similar car problems. Check engine light illuminated, rough idling, and the fuel consumption increased. Did you perhaps check the knock sensor itself, and the wiring? Is there any visible damage?

When you say 'similar', was it specifically the knock sensor throwing codes and causing these issues? Did you also experience poor ignition timing as a result, or just the rough idle and higher fuel consumption?

Indeed, the fault code pointed to the knock sensor. The symptoms were consistent with what you describe, yes. However, I am not qualified enough to advise on ignition timing. I ended up taking it to a workshop in the end. I would recommend you do the same.

Appreciate the confirmation. Turns out it was a corroded connector on the knock sensor harness, just as suspected. Cleaned it up, and the malfunction indicator is off. Total damage: 95€ for the diagnostic and some contact cleaner. Thanks again!
