Skoda Citigo Mass Air Flow Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Skoda Citigo with a gasoline engine is experiencing issues such as higher fuel consumption, engine stalling at idle, a check engine light, and smoke during acceleration, suggesting a defective mass air flow sensor. Possible causes include a clogged air filter or a damaged sensor connector. Solutions include checking and replacing the air filter, inspecting the sensor connector, and potentially replacing the mass air flow sensor, which resolved the issues in this case.

Good point about the air filter. It's probably been a while. If the air filter is clean and the connector seems fine, is there anything else I should be checking before assuming it's the mass air flow sensor itself?

Yeah, given those symptoms and the mileage, a faulty mass air flow sensor is the most likely culprit. Especially with the engine stalling and increased fuel consumption. You could try cleaning the sensor, but it's often a temporary fix. Honestly, at this point, I'd probably recommend getting it checked out by a workshop. They can confirm the sensor failure and replace it properly.

As suspected, the mass air flow sensor was indeed faulty. Replaced it, and the air filter while I was at it. Total cost was 365€. Running smoothly now, no more engine stalling or smoke. Fuel consumption seems back to normal as well. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

Hmm, those symptoms do sound like a mass air flow sensor issue. Have you checked the air filter recently? A clogged filter can sometimes contribute to problems with the mass air flow sensor. Is the performance decline gradual, or did it happen suddenly? Worth checking the sensor's connector for any obvious damage or corrosion too.
