Skoda Citigo Rear Window Heating Problem

I have a 2011 Skoda Citigo with a gasoline engine. The rear window heating is not functioning. The vehicle has only 32089 km on the odometer. I have scanned the error memory and found an error stored related to the rear window heating circuit. Furthermore, the windshield heating does not seem to be operating as it should. I suspect a heavily discharged or defective battery might be the culprit, but I would appreciate any insights or suggestions before I proceed with a replacement.

Summary of the thread

The rear window heating problem in a 2011 Skoda Citigo was traced to a potential issue with the battery, as indicated by an error code related to the rear window heating circuit. The battery showed a voltage of 12.3V, which was suspected to be weak, affecting both the rear window and windshield heating functions. After replacing the heavily discharged battery, the rear defroster functioned correctly, and the error code was resolved, confirming the battery as the root cause.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds familiar! I had a similar heating issue with my Citigo's rear defroster last winter. Have you checked the car's battery? A weak battery can cause all sorts of electrical gremlins. Also, when you say windshield heating is not working 'as usual', can you elaborate?

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, I have checked the battery, but only with a multimeter. It showed around 12.3V when the car was off. Is that considered weak? And regarding the windshield, the auto defrost function doesn't seem to activate as quickly as it used to. By auto defrost I mean the system that automatically activates the windshield heating coil when it detects fogging.

12.3V at rest could be a bit low, especially if it drops significantly when you start the engine. The auto defrost relying on the heating coil will definitely suffer. In my case, the battery seemed fine at first glance, but it wasn't providing enough current. I'd recommend getting it properly load tested. If the battery checks out, it could be a wiring issue or a faulty rear defroster relay, but honestly, based on your symptoms and the error code, a weak battery is the most likely cause. If replacing the battery doesn't fix the issue, you might need to visit a workshop.

It turned out the battery was heavily discharged, as suspected. I replaced it, and the rear defroster is now working perfectly. The error code is gone as well. The total cost was 290€, including the new battery and diagnostic check. Thanks for your input!
