Skoda Citigo starting problem
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Skoda Citigo with a gasoline engine is experiencing starting issues, a check engine light, and poor gearbox shifting. The error memory indicates a defective parking position, leading to suspicion of a faulty control unit. Suggestions include checking the transmission sensor and gear linkage, but professional diagnosis is recommended due to the complexity. Ultimately, the workshop confirmed a faulty control unit, which was repaired at a cost.

How would I check those? Is it something I can do myself?

While it's possible to visually inspect the gear linkage for obvious damage, diagnosing the transmission sensor or control unit requires specialized tools. Given the stored error and symptoms, it's likely an affected control unit. I suggest seeking professional diagnosis and repair. You risk causing more damage otherwise.

The workshop confirmed the control unit was faulty. Cost me around 1000€ to get it sorted.

Have you checked the transmission sensor and gear linkage? Unclean shifting may indicate transmission issues. Faulty sensor data could prevent starting. Is the gear shifter cable damaged?
