Interesting. Could you be more specific about which vacuum hoses? Was it obvious, like a split hose, or something more subtle? And did you also experience any rough idling?

Yes, rough idling was present. It was indeed the vacuum hoses. I didn't spot the exact location, but the mechanic pointed out that the connection from pump to valve was defective. I'd recommend a visit to a workshop; they will be able to locate the fault much faster.

Took the Fabia to the workshop. It was exactly as suspected, a faulty hose connection on the air valve. They replaced the vacuum hoses and ran diagnostics. Total cost was 175€. Check engine light is off and the idle problems are gone. Thanks for the confirmation!

I had a similar issue with my Fabia. Check the vacuum hoses connected to the air valve. A leak there can definitely trigger the check engine light and cause idle problems.
