Serpentine belt looks fine. When you say 'tensioner pulley', do you mean the belt bringer itself, or something else?

Yes, I meant the belt bringer. If it's not doing its job the tension will be off and you get that horrible squeal. If the belt looks okay, you're probably right about the tensioner itself being the problem. I'd take it to a workshop. Messing with the timing belt or serpentine belt without the right tools can be a real headache.

Just collected the Fabia. A new belt tensioner is in place. Cost me 455€, but the belt squeal is gone and engine performance is back. Thanks for the advice!

Belt squeal is the worst! I had a similar issue with my old Renault Megane. It was the tensioner pulley. Have you checked the serpentine belt for wear? Sometimes a worn belt can cause the tensioner to act up. Hope this helps!
