Skoda Fabia central locking malfunction

Alright, mechanics of the internet, I've got a head-scratcher. My 2012 Skoda Fabia with a gasoline engine is playing up. The central locking has gone completely bonkers. I can't lock or unlock the doors anymore using either the key fob (keyless entry is useless now) or the button inside. The car alarm is still functioning, thankfully. My code reader is showing an error related to the locking mechanism, which suggests a defective cable or plug connection. Anyone had similar issues? Before I start tearing apart door panels, any common culprits I should be looking for? I'm trying to avoid an expensive trip to the shop for something simple.

Summary of the thread

The central locking system of a 2012 Skoda Fabia malfunctioned, rendering both the key fob and internal button ineffective, though the car alarm remained operational. An error code suggested a defective cable or plug connection. A common issue identified was a faulty wiring loom where wires enter the door, often due to wear from door movement. The problem was resolved by addressing a dodgy connection in the door loom, restoring the central locking functionality.

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had a similar problem with my Fabia. The car locks were acting up. Have you checked the wiring loom where it goes into the door? That's where my issue was.

Wiring loom, eh? Where exactly should I be looking? Is that something I can check myself, or am I better off just taking it to a mechanic?

Yeah, it's where the wires go from the car body into the door itself. The constant opening and closing can fatigue the wires. Honestly, unless you're comfortable with car electrics, I'd say take it to a shop. Better than causing more damage. My error memory had the same error stored before I went. Cost me peanuts to get fixed.

Right, all sorted. Took it to a local shop, and you were spot on. They found a dodgy connection in the door loom, just like you said. 95€ later, and the central locking is back in action. No more wrestling with the key. Cheers for the help!
