Skoda Fabia Diesel Engine Power Loss
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Skoda Fabia diesel experienced reduced engine power and a dashboard warning light, suspected to be linked to previous chip tuning. This issue is not uncommon, as aftermarket chip tuning can interfere with the engine management system, causing diagnostic errors. The problem was resolved by reflashing the ECU to remove the tuning, which eliminated the power loss and dashboard warning.

Yes, the car computer did store a diagnostic code. I'm not sure which one it was exactly. How did you figure out the chip tuning was the problem in your case?

The error I got pointed towards the ECU. My mechanic mentioned that aftermarket chip tuning can sometimes cause issues with the engine management system and store errors in the error memory. It’s best to get it checked at a workshop with proper vehicle diagnostics tools.

Took the Fabia to a trusted shop. The diagnostic code pointed to dodgy chip tuning. They reflashed the ECU, removing the tune. Cost me 180€, but the engine issue is gone, and no more dashboard light. Thanks for the advice!

That sounds familiar. I had similar engine issue with my old Peugeot after some modifications. Did the car computer throw any specific vehicle diagnostics code? That helped me narrow things down.
