Skoda Fabia Diesel Engine Rough Running Error

I'm having trouble with my 2003 Skoda Fabia diesel. It has 148747 km on it, and the malfunction indicator lamp is on, with an error stored. The engine is also running rough. It looks like it might be a bad cable or plug to the water sensor. Any ideas?

Rough engine running on a diesel Fabia is no fun! If you've got a sensor fault and the ECU's throwing a CEL, I'd bet that moisture sensor is the problem. Have you checked the wiring harness and connector for corrosion or damage? A bad connection can cause problems. What fault code are you getting?

Thanks for the quick reply! I looked at the wiring, and it looks okay, but I haven't done any electrical testing. Do you know where the moisture sensor is and the pinout of the connector? That info would help me check it better.

The moisture sensor location can be different, but it's usually near the fuel filter or in the fuel line. I don't have the pinout info. Since you've checked the wiring, I'd suggest taking it to a pro. Sometimes finding electrical faults is hard. They can use tools to find the problem. A broken wire inside is hard to spot.

Just to let you know, I went to a workshop about the Skoda Fabia. They said it was a bad cable/plug on the moisture sensor. They fixed it, cleared the error, and now the light is off and the engine runs well. It cost 95€ to repair. Thanks again for the help.
