Skoda Fabia Diesel Engine Trouble

My 2008 Skoda Fabia with a diesel engine is giving me headaches. The check engine light is on, engine power is reduced, and it feels like I am burning more fuel. Scanning points to a faulty exhaust temperature sensor at 110458 km. I suspect a leak in the exhaust system might be messing with the heat sensor readings. Any thoughts before I start?

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms a while back, check engine light and power loss. It turned out to be a faulty exhaust sensor, messing with the emission control system and causing higher fuel consumption. Have you checked for any exhaust leaks?

An exhaust leak? Where should I look? Can I spot it myself, or should I take it to a shop?

I'm no mechanic, but with those issues, I would suspect a leak. I'm not sure you will spot it yourself. I took mine to a workshop and they confirmed the faulty exhaust sensor. It's connected to the emission control, and the sensor replacement isn't too expensive. I'd recommend a professional check.

Workshop visit confirmed the exhaust temperature sensor was faulty, probably due to a small exhaust leak. Sensor replacement and exhaust line check cost 265€. The check engine light is off and the car runs great now. Thanks for the help.
