Skoda Fabia Diesel Transfer Case Issue

Alright, I'm starting a thread about my Skoda Fabia, 2017 diesel, with 174117 km on the clock. I suspect an oil wear fault in the transfer case. The symptoms are pretty clear: the gearbox occasionally slips or shifts uncleanly. I'm thinking it might be defective gears in the transfer case. Before I start tearing things apart, is there anything obvious I should check? I've been reading about potential oil wear issues, but I'm unsure if just an oil change would solve this. Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Skoda Octavia – though mine is a bit older. Gearbox started feeling notchy, and there was a slight gear grinding noise sometimes. Have you noticed any oil leakage around the transfer case?

No visible oil leakage that I've spotted so far, but the gearbox feeling notchy and the occasional gear grinding sound you described is exactly what I'm experiencing. Was an oil change enough to solve your problem, or did you have to dig deeper?

In my case, the oil change didn't completely fix it. It improved it slightly, but the underlying problem persisted. It pointed to mechanical wear being the issue and that's exactly what the mechanic said as well. Given your symptoms, I'd suggest getting it properly inspected at a workshop. They can check the oil and determine if it contains metal particles, which would confirm mechanical wear.

Thanks a lot for the insights. Turns out, it was indeed mechanical wear inside the transfer case. Had it checked out and the defective gears were the culprit. An oil change wouldn't have helped at all. Cost me around 330€ to get it sorted, but now it shifts smoothly again.
