Skoda Fabia Engine Overheating Issue
Summary of the thread
A Skoda Fabia owner reported an engine overheating issue and suspected the electric fan might not be functioning correctly, potentially due to a defective cable or plug connection. Another individual suggested checking the wiring and plug connection to the fan motor, as corrosion or loose connections could be the cause. They advised inspecting the fan motor near the radiator and checking for any damage or corrosion in the connector. The owner later confirmed that a faulty connection was indeed the problem, which was resolved by a mechanic.

Thanks for the quick reply! Could you tell me where exactly I should be looking for this connection? I am not very familiar with the engine components.

Sure, the fan motor is usually mounted near the radiator. Trace the wires from the fan back to where they plug into the wiring harness. The connector itself is what I'd check first – unplug it (engine off, naturally!) and see if there's any corrosion or damage to the pins. A multimeter can help test for continuity, but honestly, if you're not comfortable with that, it might be best to have a professional take a look. A faulty connection is a common issue and relatively easy to fix, but overheating can cause serious damage if left unchecked. I hope this helps narrow things down!

Thank you for the information. I took it to a local mechanic and you were spot on – a faulty connection was indeed the problem. The repair cost me 95€, which is a relief. Appreciate your help!

Overheating on a Fabia is never fun. I had a similar issue with my cooling system. The temperature control went haywire and it turned out to be the fan motor connection. Check the wiring and the plug going to the fan. Sometimes they corrode or come loose. The fan clutch is also something to look at, although less likely in your case. When the engine cooling isn't working properly, it's easy to see the temperature gauge climb!
