Skoda Fabia gear shift indicator problem

Alright, I'm pulling my hair out here. My 2017 Skoda Fabia, gasoline engine, with only 28121 km on the clock, is having major issues with the gear shift indicator. The digital display in the instrument panel is completely blank, and I can't see what gear I'm in. Now, the real kicker: it's affecting the automatic transmission. It's shifting erratically, sometimes slips, and makes a grinding noise when changing gears. The gear selector seems to be working, but there's clearly something wrong. Also, there's an error code stored that points to the control unit. From what I've read, it might be a defective control unit. Any ideas before I shell out a fortune?

Whoa, that sounds rough. I had something similar happen with my Renault Megane a few years back. The digital display went haywire, and the gear indicator was just showing random characters. Could barely shift. Was it making any weird noises?

Interesting, the Megane is a completely different car! Was your gear selector also affected? I'm wondering if it's a common problem across brands or just bad luck. Did you end up replacing the whole instrument panel?

Yeah, the gear selector itself felt loose, almost disconnected. The whole thing was tied to a faulty control module. I didn't replace the entire instrument panel, just the module. Honestly, you're probably looking at a similar issue. Get it checked by a decent workshop, could save you headaches down the road.

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it! Seems like a trip to the shop is inevitable. They've confirmed the control unit is indeed defective and needs replacing. Quoted around 1000€...ouch!
