Skoda Fabia rough idle and stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Skoda Fabia with a gasoline engine was experiencing rough idling, stalling, and jerky acceleration, with the check engine light on. The initial suspicion was a faulty fuel pressure sensor, possibly due to a defective cable or plug connection, which could affect fuel economy and cause engine misfires. After consulting with a mechanic, it was confirmed that a loose connection at the fuel pressure sensor plug was the issue. Once cleaned and secured, the car ran smoothly without further problems.

Thanks for the quick reply! The stalling happens mostly when the engine is warm, like after driving for 20 minutes or so. The jerking feels more like a misfire, especially at lower RPMs. I had a look at the fuel pump, but I am not sure how to proceed now. Any tips on checking that cable or plug connection?

Okay, the fact that it happens when warm and feels like a misfire definitely points towards a fuel delivery issue, possibly the fuel pressure sensor like you suspected. Given your initial thought and my limited experience, I'd probably take it to a workshop. They'll have the proper tools to diagnose the fuel system properly, especially the cable and plug connection.

Just wanted to let you know that you were spot on with the potential cable issue. I had the Skoda at a local mechanic, and after some diagnosis, it turned out the fuel pressure sensor plug had a loose connection. They cleaned it up and secured it properly. All in all, it cost me 95€, which is a lot better than a new fuel pump! Runs like a charm now, no more check engine light or misfires. Thanks a lot for your help!

Sounds like a frustrating problem. When the engine stalls at idle, does it happen when it's cold or warm, or does it not matter? And when you say 'jerking,' is it a consistent jerk, or more like an engine misfire feeling? I'm just wondering if the fuel injector is getting enough fuel. Perhaps checking the cable or plug connection for the fuel pump could be a shout?
