Spark plug connections, ok. Where exactly should I be looking, and is there a way to test the ignition coil itself without special tools? I'm not exactly a mechanic, but I'm willing to have a look before taking it in.

Yeah, it really does sound like an ignition coil. I'm no mechanic either, but the symptoms are pretty classic. While you can try cleaning up the spark plug connections, testing the coil itself usually needs specialized equipment. Honestly, to avoid messing something up further, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop to get it properly diagnosed. Misfires can damage the catalytic converter if left unchecked.

Thanks for the help! I took it to a local mechanic, and you were spot on. It was a faulty ignition coil and a slightly corroded connector. They replaced the coil, cleaned up the connection, and now it's running smoothly. Cost me 95€, but it was worth it to have it sorted.

Sounds like you might have an ignition problem, possibly a bad ignition coil. I had similar symptoms on my old Renault Clio – rough idling, check engine light, and all that. Have you checked the spark plug connections? Sometimes a loose or corroded connection can cause misfires.
