Skoda Kamiq Bumper Antenna Issues

Alright, I'm officially pulling my hair out. My Skoda Kamiq from is giving me fits. It's got around 89198 km on the clock. The error memory keeps throwing up an error related to the bumper antenna. Now, unlocking and locking the car is a crapshoot, and to top it off, I can't even start the engine without the key physically in the ignition lock! The workshop suspects a defective cable or plug connection on the component. Anyone else run into something like this? This car antenna issue is driving me nuts!

Summary of the thread

The Skoda Kamiq owner experienced issues with the bumper antenna, affecting the car's locking, unlocking, and engine start functions. The error memory indicated a problem with the antenna, and the workshop suspected a defective cable or plug connection. A fellow owner suggested checking the antenna connection for looseness or corrosion and mentioned potential signal interference. Ultimately, the problem was resolved by repairing the defective cable/plug connection, restoring the car's functionality.

Interesting issue. I have a Kamiq as well. I experienced something similar a while back. The car radio reception was terrible, and I started getting keyless entry issues. I'm no expert, but did you check the basics like the car antenna connection itself? Sometimes those things get loose or corroded. Also, just a thought, are you familiar with what a 'Faraday cage' is? It's basically an enclosure that blocks electromagnetic fields. If something is interfering with the signal, it could cause problems with both the car radio and the keyless entry.

Thanks for the quick reply! Good to know someone else had a similar headache. I did a quick visual inspection of the car antenna, but honestly, I wouldn't know corrosion if it slapped me in the face. Where exactly should I be looking for that connection you mentioned? And this Faraday cage thing... you think something like that could actually be causing this?

Yeah, sounds very familiar. The antenna repair fixed all those problems for me. The car radio was cutting in and out, keyless entry was a nightmare, and the starting issue was the last straw. Honestly, if the error memory is pointing to the antenna, and you're having all these related symptoms, I wouldn't mess around too much. I would just bite the bullet and take it to a workshop. They can properly diagnose and fix that cable or plug connection. It's likely a simple antenna replacement or repair, but best to leave it to the pros, I think.

Took your advice and went to the workshop. Turns out it was indeed a defective cable/plug connection to the bumper antenna, just like the error memory suggested. Antenna repair cost me 95€, and now everything is working perfectly again. Thanks a bunch for your help!
