Skoda Kamiq Diesel Engine Issues

I'm at my wit's end with my 2021 Skoda Kamiq with a diesel engine! The check engine light keeps popping up, and the car feels like it's lost a good chunk of its power. On top of that, I'm burning through fuel like crazy! I've already run a diagnostic, and it's pointing to a faulty exhaust temperature sensor. The car has 107988 km on the clock. I suspect there might be a leak in the car exhaust system, but I'm no mechanic. Has anyone else experienced this, and could a leak really cause the exhaust sensor to fail?

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Skoda Kamiq with a diesel engine was experiencing issues with the check engine light, reduced power, and increased fuel consumption. Diagnostics indicated a faulty exhaust temperature sensor, and there was suspicion of an exhaust system leak. A similar case suggested that a leak could indeed cause sensor failure. After professional inspection, the problem was confirmed to be the exhaust temperature sensor, exacerbated by a small exhaust leak, and was resolved with a sensor replacement.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds familiar. I've got a Kamiq as well, and a while back, I had similar issues – check engine light, felt like the engine was holding back, and the fuel consumption definitely went up. I'd check the exhaust sensor; that was the culprit in my case.

Thanks for the quick reply! Was it definitely the temperature sensor, or could it have been something else related to the exhaust? And did you notice any visible signs of damage, or was it just the symptoms?

Yep, it was the exhaust temperature sensor. No visible damage, just the symptoms you described. Given that you suspect a leak in the exhaust system, it's very likely that's the root cause. Honestly, I'd get it checked by a professional; messing with the engine management system without the right tools can cause more harm than good. They will probably do a sensor replacement.

Took the Kamiq to a trusted workshop, and you were spot on! It was indeed the exhaust temperature sensor. They found a small leak in the exhaust system too, which probably caused the sensor to fail. The whole thing, including the sensor replacement, came to about 265€. Engine light is gone, and the car runs like new again. Thanks a million for your help!
