Skoda Kamiq Diesel Engine Power Loss and Smoke
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Skoda Kamiq with a diesel engine is experiencing reduced power and smoke during acceleration, potentially due to a defective diesel particulate filter (DPF). A similar issue in another vehicle was caused by a faulty sensor leading to premature DPF clogging. It is suggested to check the sensors and consider DPF cleaning as an alternative to replacement, especially since city driving can exacerbate DPF issues. Ultimately, a certified workshop confirmed the DPF defect, leading to a filter replacement to resolve the problem.

I appreciate the suggestion. Where exactly is this sensor located, and is it something I can check myself? I mostly drive in the city. Is DPF cleaning an alternative to filter replacement?

I'm not sure of the exact location of the sensor on your Skoda, but on my Insignia, it was near the DPF. Honestly, unless you're comfortable working on cars, I would recommend taking it to a workshop. City driving is known to cause DPF issues as the filter does not get hot enough to regenerate. DPF cleaning is an option, but if the filter is severely damaged, a filter replacement might be the only solution.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I took the Kamiq to a certified workshop, and they confirmed the DPF was defective. I opted for a filter replacement, costing 1550€. Hopefully, this resolves the issue and restores my fuel efficiency.

That sounds frustrating. I had a similar issue with my Vauxhall Insignia. It turned out to be a faulty sensor in the exhaust system that was causing the DPF to clog up prematurely. Have you checked the sensors? It might be worth investigating before you consider a DPF cleaning or filter replacement. What kind of driving do you usually do?
