Skoda Kamiq reduced engine power after chip tuning

My 2021 Skoda Kamiq with a gasoline engine is showing reduced engine power and a fault code. Mileage is at 227903 km. I suspect faulty chip tuning by a third-party provider. Error is stored in the error memory. I performed vehicle diagnostics and found a fault code.

Whoa, reduced engine power and a fault code on a 2021 Kamiq with that kind of mileage? Sounds like something's definitely amiss! A 'fault code' is basically the car's computer telling you something isn't working right. You mentioned vehicle diagnostics - did you use a scan tool yourself to pull the code, or did a mechanic do it? Knowing the exact fault code would be super helpful. It's usually a 'P' followed by four numbers and maybe some letters (e.g., P0300). Also, has the dashboard light illuminated? Regarding the chip tuning, that's a common culprit for these sorts of issues. Aftermarket tuning can sometimes push the engine beyond its designed limits, leading to problems. If the car wasn't doing this before the tuning, it's almost certainly the reason. Let me know what the code is and we can dig deeper!

I used a generic car diagnostic tool and it showed a fault related to the engine management system. The code was something like Pxxxx, I didn't write it down exactly. The dashboard light is on. How can I be sure it's the chip tuning?

Okay, a Pxxxx code relating to the engine management system definitely points towards the tuning being the prime suspect, especially with a dashboard light illuminated! While it's not 100% certain without further testing (like inspecting the ECU map), the symptoms strongly suggest that the chip tuning is causing the issue. It's essentially overriding the factory settings, and if not done correctly, it can lead to all sorts of problems. My advice? Take it to a reputable workshop that specializes in Skodas or at least has experience with removing aftermarket tunes. They can properly diagnose the issue, remove the chip tuning (if necessary), and reset the ECU (Engine Control Unit). They might also need to reflash the original factory software. Don't attempt to remove the chip yourself unless you REALLY know what you're doing, as you could potentially brick the ECU. Good luck!

Thanks for the help. The garage confirmed it was a dodgy chip tune causing the fault code. They removed it and reset the ECU. Cost me 180€ all in.
