Skoda Karoq Active Hood Fault

I'm hoping someone can shed light on an issue with my 2017 Skoda Karoq diesel. I keep getting an 'Active hood fault' message, and the airbag warning lamp is lit. The error memory also has a fault stored related to the active hood system, and the spring actuators seem to have been triggered. Research suggests a defective acceleration sensor is the likely cause, but I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this. The car has about 199862 km on it. I suspect it involves some aspects of the car electronics and crash detection system.

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Skoda Karoq diesel owner reported an 'Active hood fault' message and an illuminated airbag warning lamp, suspecting a defective acceleration sensor as the cause. Another individual with a similar experience suggested checking the hood latch mechanism, but ultimately, a workshop diagnosed the issue as a faulty acceleration sensor. Replacing the sensor resolved the problem, clearing the error message and turning off the airbag warning light.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a similar issue with my Karoq some time ago. The active hood fault message appeared, and the airbag light came on. Have you checked the hood latch mechanism itself? Sometimes a faulty latch can trigger the system, causing the car electronics to think there's been an impact.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't specifically checked the hood latch itself. When you say 'checked', what exactly did you do? Did you just visually inspect it, or did you do something more involved like testing the continuity of the hood latch sensor, if there is one? I'm trying to avoid just throwing parts at it.

I only did a visual check back then, and it looked fine. In my case, the error kept reappearing, so I took it to a workshop. They diagnosed it as a faulty impact sensor (acceleration sensor), which is part of the active hood system's crash detection. It's probably best to have it professionally diagnosed to be sure, but the symptoms sound very familiar. Good luck!

The workshop visit confirmed the acceleration sensor was the issue. After replacement and clearing the error memory, the active hood fault message disappeared, and the airbag warning light is now off. The total cost was 315€.
