Summary of the thread
A 2017 Skoda Karoq diesel is experiencing significant belt squeal, suspected to be caused by a defective belt bringer/handover. This issue raises concerns about potential damage to the timing belt. A similar problem was resolved by checking the idler pulley and replacing a defective belt tensioner, which restored smooth operation.

Thanks for the quick reply. How long ago did you experience this? Was the belt squeal constant, or just at certain RPMs? And did it affect your timing belt?

It was about six months ago. The squeal was mostly noticeable at lower RPMs. Eventually, engine performance started to dip. I'd recommend getting it checked out by a workshop. Could be a defective belt tensioner affecting the timing belt.

Appreciate your help. Took it to a workshop, and you were spot on - defective belt tensioner. The belt handover wasn't working. Repair cost me 455€. Now it’s running smoothly again.

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Karoq. Check your idler pulley too. Could be contributing to the belt squeal. Is the engine performance affected?
