Skoda Karoq Diesel Engine Issue

My 2023 Skoda Karoq with a diesel engine is giving me grief. It's got 187530 km on the clock. The check engine light is on, and I'm experiencing reduced engine power, poor engine response, and increased fuel consumption. I scanned the OBD and I get a fault code related to "Crankshaft to Camshaft Reference Value". I suspect a defective crankshaft sensor. I'm concerned it might be a bigger timing chain or timing belt issue. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Sounds like you're on the right track with the crankshaft sensor. I had a similar issue with my Karoq. Check engine light, power loss, the whole shebang. Did you check the wiring to the sensor? Sometimes it's just a bad connection.

I did a visual inspection of the wiring, but didn't see anything obvious. How did you confirm it was the sensor and not something else, like the timing chain being stretched?

I didn't check the timing chain specifically, but the symptoms were pretty clear and pointed to the sensor. A stretched timing belt or chain usually comes with other noises and rough running. In my case, replacing the crankshaft sensor fixed it right away. If you're not sure, I would suggest taking it to a workshop to get a proper diagnosis.

Took it to the workshop, and it was a defective crankshaft sensor, like I thought. Replaced it, and the reference value is back within spec. Total cost was 340€, including the sensor and labor. Engine light is off, and power is restored. Appreciate the help.
