Thanks for the quick reply! When you say 'cable and plug connections,' are we talking about the ones directly on the control unit itself, or somewhere else in the ignition system? And yeah, the smoke definitely smells like unburnt diesel.

Yes, I meant the connections directly on the control unit for the vehicle heater. Given the diesel smell, it's highly likely that's the culprit. I'd still advise getting it checked at a workshop to be sure, as it could also be fuel injectors. But cleaning and securing the plug is where I'd start if you're comfortable doing a bit of DIY.

You were spot on! Took it to the workshop, and it turned out to be exactly what you said – a defective plug connection to the preheating control unit. They cleaned it up, secured the connection, and the problem's gone. Cost me 95€, but worth every penny to get rid of that smoke and the annoying lights. Thanks a million for your help!

I had a similar issue with my Skoda Karoq. Check the car preheater's cable and plug connections. It's often a defective part, causing the preheating lamp to stay on and triggering the check engine light. Does the smoke smell strongly of diesel?
