Skoda Karoq parking brake malfunction

I'm experiencing some concerning issues with my Skoda Karoq 2017 diesel. The electronic parking brake has completely stopped functioning. I get a warning light on the speedometer, and there's an error stored in the system memory. I suspect it might be the electric motor in the brake caliper that's defective. The vehicle has 144784 km on the clock. Has anyone else encountered this? I'm concerned about vehicle safety if the parking brake is unreliable, and I'm trying to get an idea of what I'm up against before taking it to a workshop. The mechanic estimated around 505€ for the repair. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a familiar story. I had a similar parking brake issue on my Karoq. I'd check the brake sensor first. Could be a system glitch triggering the warning light. Have you run any brake diagnostics?

Yeah, it was the same for me. The error code pointed to the parking brake, but the root cause was a faulty brake sensor. The garage guys said it's a common problem. By 'system glitch', I meant a software/electrical fault causing the parking brake module to misread the brake sensor data. If the basic scan didn't pinpoint it, a proper brake diagnostics check at a workshop is probably your best bet.

Took the Karoq to the shop, and you were spot on. The electric motor in the brake caliper was indeed defective. They replaced it, and the parking brake is working perfectly again. The brake diagnostics confirmed the issue. Cost me around 505€, but at least it's sorted. Thanks again for your help!
