Skoda Karoq Transmission Issues

Alright, I'm officially pulling my hair out. My 2018 Skoda Karoq with a gasoline engine is giving me fits. We're talking 96476 km on the clock. The engine warning light keeps popping on, and sometimes it's the transmission warning light that lights up! I've pulled the error codes, and it points to a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. Now, the gearbox is going into emergency mode, shifting is rough, and sometimes I even hear grinding noises. Could this all really be down to this one gearbox sensor, or am I missing something? Is this a common issue? I'm also suspicious about a loss of gearbox oil, can this be related to the faulty temperature sensor and the mentioned symptoms? This is driving me nuts!

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Skoda Karoq with 96,476 km is experiencing transmission issues, including warning lights, rough shifting, and grinding noises. The problem is traced to a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor, which can trigger emergency mode and cause shifting problems. It is suggested to check the transmission oil level, as a low level could exacerbate the issue and damage the sensor. The recommended solution is to have the sensor replaced and the oil level checked by a professional to prevent further damage.

Sounds like a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. When the sensor malfunctions, it can trigger the emergency mode and cause shifting issues. Have you checked the transmission oil level? A low oil level could also cause similar symptoms and potentially damage the sensor.

Thanks for the quick response! I hadn't considered the oil level itself. Is there a specific procedure for checking the transmission oil level on the 2018 Karoq, or is it something best left to a workshop?

Yes, a faulty transmission sensor can absolutely cause those issues. If the oil level is low, it could be the root cause, potentially damaging the temperature sensor in the process. The grinding noise and rough shifting further suggest that the gearbox isn't operating correctly, probably due to the low oil level. I would advise against driving it any further and strongly recommend taking it to a workshop to have the oil level checked and the transmission sensor replaced. Continuing to drive it could cause serious damage.

Just got my Karoq back. You were spot on; it was the transmission oil temperature sensor causing all the chaos. The bill came to 365€, which, honestly, I was expecting worse. Thanks a million for the guidance!
