Skoda Kodiaq 2.0 TDI 2018 problems with the engine, engine indicator light keeps coming on

Hey everyone, I have a problem with my 2017 Skoda Kodiaq Diesel, which now has 109876 km down. The following symptoms are occurring: black smoke from the exhaust when accelerating, check engine light is on, loss of power in the engine, exhaust leak and strong exhaust odor. I think it could be due to a malfunction in the exhaust aftertreatment system. Has anyone had similar experiences? What was your problem and how did your mechanic solve it? I am grateful for any tips! Regards.

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Skoda Kodiaq Diesel with 109,876 km is experiencing black smoke from the exhaust, a check engine light, loss of power, an exhaust leak, and a strong exhaust odor. These symptoms suggest a possible malfunction in the exhaust aftertreatment system. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by replacing a defective lambda sensor, which plays a crucial role in exhaust gas regulation. It is recommended to have the lambda sensors checked to potentially resolve the problem.

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2015 Skoda Octavia diesel at around 95000 km. My symptoms were also black smoke, check engine light and loss of power. In my case, it was due to a defect in one of the lambda sensors. The mechanic at the dealership read out the fault and found that the front lambda sensor in the exhaust system was no longer working properly. The repair consisted of replacing the defective lambda sensor. It was already a serious problem because the lambda sensor plays an important role in exhaust gas regulation and the engine will not run optimally without correct exhaust gas values. After the replacement, my car ran perfectly again and the symptoms had completely disappeared. Maybe this will help you. Regards.

Hey, thanks for the info! That sounds pretty much like what's going on with mine. Can you remember how much the repair cost you? And have you had any other problems with your Skoda since then? Regards.

Hey, sure, I can still remember it well. The repair cost me a total of €375. After replacing the defective lambda sensor, the problem with the malfunctioning exhaust gas aftertreatment was completely resolved. After that I had no more problems with my Skoda, everything ran like clockwork again! If you have similar symptoms, I would really recommend having it checked quickly. It's possible that it's the lambda sensor, and then you'll be on the safe side. Hope this helps you! Best regards.

Hey, great, thanks for the info! I'll take it to the mechanic soon and have the lambda sensors checked. The symbols really do sound very similar. Of course, €375 is quite a lot, but if everything runs smoothly again afterwards, it's probably worth the investment. I'll keep you posted here on how it turns out for me. Hopefully it really is just the lambda sensor and nothing bigger. Keep your fingers crossed for me! Best regards.
