Skoda Kodiaq 2.0 TDI problems with the regeneration of the diesel particulate filter

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Check engine light on

Strong exhaust smell

DPF regeneration failure

Loss of engine power

Hello everyone, I have a problem with my Skoda Kodiaq Diesel (year of manufacture 2020). I have observed the following symptoms: black smoke when accelerating, check engine light on, loss of power, DPF regeneration error, strong exhaust smell. I suspect that the diesel particulate filter is heavily loaded. Has anyone had similar experiences? How did you solve the problem and what was your experience with the garage? I look forward to your tips and advice!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my Skoda Karoq Diesel (built in 2018). My expertise in cars is rather limited, but I'm happy to share my experience. I also experienced symptoms such as black smoke, loss of power and the check engine light coming on. After a visit to the garage, it turned out that the diesel particulate filter was defective due to the high mileage. The workshop removed and replaced the DPF. The cost for this was 1550.0 euros. The problem was then solved and my car ran perfectly again. To be able to help you better, it would be useful to know how many kilometers you have already driven and whether the problem occurred suddenly or developed slowly. Kind regards,

Hey, I also recently had a problem with my Skoda Kodiaq Diesel (98765 km). The black smoke and loss of power in my case was also caused by a heavily loaded DPF. My garage cleaned the DPF and checked and replaced some sensors. After that, everything ran smoothly again. Could recommend the same to you, maybe try the cleaning first before you have the filter completely replaced. Best regards!

Hey, thanks for the feedback and the tip. I had also read something about DPF cleaning before I had my filter completely changed. The last time I drove my Skoda Kodiaq Diesel, the problem suddenly occurred after about 112000 km. At my garage, they first tried cleaning the DPF, but this didn't have the desired effect. Apparently my filter was already too heavily loaded and the sensors had also taken a knock. That's why we decided to replace it completely after all. If you try cleaning it first, I'll keep my fingers crossed that it helps! And if not - the new filter actually worked wonders for me. Since then, the Kodiaq has been running perfectly again. Maybe try driving longer distances regularly to help the DPF regenerate better next time. Best wishes and good luck!

Thank you for your answer! It's good to know that cleaning is also an option before replacing the entire filter. I have just reached 98000 km and hope that cleaning will be enough. Your experience will definitely help me make a better decision. Perhaps I should also drive longer distances more often so that the DPF can regenerate better. Thank you for the helpful exchange and tips! Best regards!
