Skoda Kodiaq alarm battery issue

I have a Skoda Kodiaq built in 2018 with a diesel engine, mileage is 221372 km. Recently, I've been getting an error message related to the additional battery for the alarm system. The error is stored in the error memory, and the alarm system is not working. I suspect the battery is discharged due to ageing. Has anyone else experienced this battery problem? Any thoughts before I take it to the workshop?

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my BMW a while back. It kept throwing a battery signal error related to the alarm system. Turns out, modern cars often have a small auxiliary battery specifically for things like the alarm, keyless entry, and other convenience features. When the main car battery starts to die, these systems are often the first to complain. The auxiliary battery is there to ensure those features still work even if the main one is struggling to start the engine. Is your alarm system completely non-functional, or is it just throwing the error?

Interesting, I didn't know there was a separate battery for the alarm system. Is there a way to check this auxiliary battery, or do I need to take it to a workshop?

Yeah, it's a bit of a hidden thing. Some advanced DIYers might be able to test it with a multimeter, but honestly, accessing it can be a pain depending on where it's located in the car. Plus, you need to know what voltage you're looking for. Given that the error is already stored and the alarm is non-functional, it's probably best to have a battery check done at a workshop. They can diagnose it properly and confirm if it's indeed the auxiliary battery. This way, you also avoid accidentally messing something up while trying to get to the battery.

Just got back from the workshop. They confirmed it was the auxiliary battery and replaced it. Cost me 330€. All good now!
