Skoda Kodiaq automatic gearbox issues

I've got a head scratcher. My 2022 Skoda Kodiaq with a Gasoline engine and 132117 km on the clock is giving me serious grief. The automatic gearbox is playing up big time. Specifically, the paddle shifters are completely dead, the gearbox slips and shifts really uncleanly, there's a nasty grinding noise when it does shift, and the response time of the paddles is slower than a snail. Oh, and to top it all off, the gearbox keeps going into emergency mode. I've plugged it into a reader, and it's throwing up error codes related to the transmission control unit. Could this be a defective control unit? A transmission repair is my last resort...

Summary of the thread

A 2022 Skoda Kodiaq with a gasoline engine is experiencing significant automatic gearbox issues, including non-responsive paddle shifters, slipping, unclean shifts, grinding noises, and emergency mode activation. Error codes related to the transmission control unit suggest a defective control module as a potential cause. A similar issue in another Skoda model was resolved by replacing the control module, leading to a recommendation for a transmission diagnosis and repair. After following this advice, the problem was confirmed and resolved with a new control module and transmission repair, restoring smooth operation.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds suspiciously like the issue I had with my Skoda Octavia. Gearbox acting all funky, especially with the paddle shifters. Does it feel a bit like driving through treacle sometimes? Almost like the car computer is having a hard time deciding which gear to pick? I'd get a transmission diagnosis done pronto.

Treacle is a good analogy! Exactly how it feels sometimes. Did yours also throw up any errors? And was it definitely the control module causing all the drama?

Yep, mine was throwing errors left, right, and center. And yeah, the control module was the culprit. The workshop said it's a common issue. Get it to a trusted shop for transmission diagnosis. They'll probably need to replace the control module, which means a transmission repair as well. Don't delay, could cause further damage!

Massive thanks for the help! Turns out you were spot on. Dropped it off at the workshop, and after a transmission diagnosis, they confirmed the transmission control unit was indeed defective. New control module and transmission repair later, plus a 1000€ dent in my wallet, my Kodiaq is running smoothly again. Now shifting like butter!
