Skoda Kodiaq diesel exhaust issues
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Skoda Kodiaq diesel with 202,042 km was experiencing reduced engine power, excessive smoke, and a strong exhaust smell, accompanied by a warning light on the speedometer. The issue was suspected to be a defective exhaust back pressure sensor, causing the diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration to fail. This was confirmed by a garage, and after replacing the faulty sensor, the vehicle's performance and emission control returned to normal.

It seems to happen more when the DPF regeneration should be kicking in. As for other codes, there was something about 'diesel exhaust temperature implausible'. Could that be related to the same sensor issue?

That 'diesel exhaust temperature implausible' code definitely points towards a faulty sensor, likely the exhaust back pressure sensor. If it's not reading correctly, the ECU won't trigger DPF regeneration properly. Best get it checked at a workshop, as running it like that can damage the DPF.

Cheers for the input. Turns out you nailed it. The garage confirmed the exhaust back pressure sensor was buggered. New sensor fitted, cost me 245€ all in, and the Kodiaq is running sweet again. No more smoke, the power is back, and that awful smell is gone. Emission control is back in action!

Low pressure on a diesel exhaust can be tricky. Does it happen often, or just during DPF regeneration? Does the engine management system show any other fault codes related to the diesel particulate filter?
