Skoda Kodiaq Diesel Performance Problems
Summary of the thread
The 2017 Skoda Kodiaq diesel was experiencing performance issues, including increased fuel consumption, engine stalling, and the check engine light being on, along with smoke during acceleration. These symptoms suggested a defective mass air flow (MAF) sensor. A dirty air filter can contribute to MAF sensor issues by allowing dirt and oil to coat the sensor, affecting its function. Replacing the MAF sensor resolved the performance problems.

Interesting. When you say 'gunk up' the MAF sensor, what exactly happens? Is it something I could have prevented with more frequent air filter changes, or is it just a matter of time before the sensor fails?

Yeah, 'gunk up' means the sensor's hot wire gets coated with dirt and oil from the air intake. This messes with its ability to accurately measure the air flow. More frequent air filter changes can definitely help prevent it, but sometimes they just fail. Given all your symptoms, I'd say it's time to visit a workshop.

Took it to the shop, and you were spot on. The mass air flow sensor was indeed the culprit. New sensor installed, total cost 365€. Runs like a champ now. Thanks a bunch for your help!

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had almost the exact same symptoms with my old BMW 3 Series – higher fuel consumption, engine stalling, and that dreaded check engine light. Definitely sounds like a mass air flow (MAF) sensor issue. Did you check the air filter? A dirty air filter can sometimes gunk up the MAF sensor.
