Skoda Octavia 2019 problems again and again the starter does not work
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Skoda Octavia is experiencing starting issues, particularly in cold weather, with symptoms including strange engine noises, a weak battery, flickering lights, and a warning light on the speedometer. These issues might be due to an electrical system fault, possibly involving incorrect sensor readings, corroded wiring, or battery connection problems. Suggested solutions include checking the vehicle's electrical system, cleaning contacts, replacing cables, and updating the control unit's software. It is recommended to have the car inspected at a workshop, as repairs might be covered under warranty or goodwill.

Hi, thanks for your reply! My Octavia has a 2.0 TDI engine and is pretty well equipped. I mainly wanted to know if anyone has perhaps had similar electronic problems at this mileage (187654 km) and what was done when it was repaired. Your reference to the vehicle electrics definitely sounds like a good approach. Best regards!

Hi again! No problem and you're welcome! Your Octavia already has a few kilometers on the clock. I also had the electronic problem at around this mileage. The symptoms were similar - especially the longer starting times and the flickering lights. At the workshop, they first read out the control unit and found that some of the sensors were giving incorrect readings. The battery was checked and was fine in itself, but the wiring had some corrosion spots, which apparently caused the electronic problems. The contacts were cleaned and some cables were replaced. A software update for the control unit was also carried out. Since then, the problems have disappeared and the engine starts again without any problems, even in cold weather. By the way, whether this is under warranty or as a gesture of goodwill depends very much on your service history. My advice: definitely have it checked in the workshop, especially the electrics and battery connections. It definitely sounds like an electronic problem similar to the one in my Superb. Hopefully this will help you and you'll soon have a reliable car again! Best regards!

Hi again! No problem and thanks for the detailed reply! Your experience actually sounds very helpful. I will definitely have it checked at the garage. Let's see if it's actually the electrical system and the cables. Maybe I'll be lucky and the repair will be done as a gesture of goodwill or under warranty. I'll keep you posted on how things progress. Thanks again for the tips and the quick help! Best regards!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2017 Skoda Superb. My experience with cars is rather limited, but I can still help you a bit. It was the same for me: longer starting times in cold weather, weak battery, flickering lights and also a warning light in the speedometer. I then went to the garage and they discovered that the problem was caused by a subsequent fault in the vehicle's electrical system (fault results from a subsequent fault in the vehicle's electrical system). Incidentally, the repair cost me nothing - 0.0 euros. So it's worth having this checked. Maybe you're lucky and it's just an electronic problem that's covered by warranty or goodwill. What engine and what equipment does your Octavia have? This information could help to provide more specific information. Best regards!
