Skoda Octavia 2019 problems with the exhaust gas recirculation or EGR valve

Loss of engine power

Unsteady engine

Engine shuts off by itself

Check engine light on

Strong exhaust smell

Shaking while idling

Hello everyone, my Skoda Octavia Diesel, year 2019, is currently causing problems. Symptoms: Check Engine light, engine stops by itself, loss of power, rough engine, strong exhaust odor, and jerking at idle. Think it's the EGR valve. Does anyone have experience with this problem? How did you solve it? What did the garage do? Thanks for your help!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2017 Skoda Superb Diesel. I have some experience with cars, especially when it comes to the basics. In my case, the EGR valve was also defective or stuck. The symptoms were pretty similar: Check Engine light, engine problems and a strong exhaust odor. I then drove straight to my garage. They replaced the EGR valve and deleted the error code. It cost me 355.0 euros. Since then, the car has been running like clockwork again. If you can tell me your exact model, I might be able to find out more details and help you! Good luck!

Hey, thanks for your answer! My Octavia currently has 165432 km on it. It's only recently had a service, but the problems have still cropped up. I will probably also have the EGR valve checked. Your experience will definitely help me. I'll see what my garage has to say. Thanks again!

Hey, no problem, you're welcome! At 165432 km, it could definitely be the EGR valve. My garage said at the time that this is a common weak point in diesel engines, especially if you drive a lot in city traffic. The valve can coke up and jam as a result. If you haven't already done so, you can also see if cleaning the EGR valve is sufficient before replacing it completely. There are special cleaning kits for this. Sometimes this is enough to rectify the fault and save a lot of money. It's best to have the fault memory read out straight away so that you can be sure that it really is the EGR valve and not possibly another sensor or component. Keep me posted on how things progress for you! Have a safe journey! Greetings

Hey, thanks for the tip about cleaning! I'll take that into consideration before I install a new part straight away. Of course, it would be great if it's just the coking and doesn't need to be replaced completely. I often drive short distances, so you may well be right. I'll have the fault memory read out first and then see what my garage recommends. I'll definitely let you know if there's any news. Thanks again for the helpful information! :) Greetings
