Summary of the thread
A 2017 Skoda Octavia owner reported a 'battery malfunction' error message and weak engine starts, suspecting a general electrical issue and insufficient battery charging. The problem was identified as a faulty auxiliary battery, which was confirmed by a workshop diagnosis. Replacing the auxiliary battery resolved the error and improved engine start performance.

Thanks for the quick response! Where is the auxiliary battery located, and how can I check the voltage? I have a multimeter, but I'm not really experienced with car electronics.

The auxiliary battery is usually located near the main battery, often under the rear seat or in the trunk. However, if you're not comfortable working with car electronics, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. Given the symptoms and the error codes, it's highly likely the auxiliary battery needs replacing. Best to have it professionally diagnosed to avoid causing further damage to the car electronics.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop, and you were right. The auxiliary battery was faulty and not charging properly. Replacing it cost me 290€, but now the error is gone, and the engine start is smooth again.

Sounds like a similar issue I had with my Skoda Octavia, though mine is a bit older. The 'battery malfunction' and 'power management' errors, plus the weak engine start, scream auxiliary battery problems. It's like having a small reserve tank that's supposed to help with the car electronics, especially with all the modern features. Have you checked the voltage on that battery? A significant voltage drop when starting the engine usually points to a bad battery.
