Skoda Octavia Diesel Battery Issues

I'm having issues with my 2009 Skoda Octavia diesel (228732 km). The battery keeps going flat. I've jump-started it a couple of times, but the problem returns after a day or two. I'm getting an error message, the lights are weak or flickering, and the engine struggles to start. I've run a scan, and there's an error stored. Could this be a dead battery problem, or the cause of battery failure? I'm leaning towards a defective battery sensor. Has anyone experienced similar car battery issues?

Summary of the thread

A 2009 Skoda Octavia diesel is experiencing recurring battery issues, including a flat battery, weak or flickering lights, and engine starting problems. The problem persists despite jump-starting, and an error message related to the electrical system appears. The likely cause is identified as a faulty battery sensor, which, when replaced, resolves the issues. A workshop diagnosis and subsequent sensor replacement successfully fix the problem.

That sounds familiar! I had a similar battery failure with my Octavia. Were the battery terminals clean and tight when you checked? Weak or flickering lights also suggest a battery charging problem. What error codes did you find?

The battery terminals seemed okay, not excessively corroded. I'm not sure about the exact error codes, the speedometer message was generic, something like 'electrical system error'. It only happened after the dead battery and jump start. Could it still be the battery sensor, even if the battery is relatively new? What was your battery failure like?

Yeah, that sounds very close to what I experienced. The 'electrical system error' message is vague. In my case, the garage confirmed it was the battery sensor. Replacing that fixed the battery charging, and everything was normal. Considering all your symptoms – the error message, weak lights, starting issues, and the battery draining – it's likely. I'd recommend a workshop diagnosis.

Just a quick note. You were right! The local garage confirmed the battery sensor was faulty after a diagnostic check. A new sensor and battery charging fixed everything. It cost 315€ total. Thanks for the help!
