Skoda Octavia Diesel Engine Power Loss
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Skoda Octavia diesel with 243,729 km is experiencing significant engine power loss and a persistent check engine light. The issue is suspected to be related to the throttle valve, possibly involving the accelerator pedal module or its electronics. A similar case suggested that a faulty throttle body could be the cause, affecting air intake and fuel efficiency. The problem was resolved by replacing the throttle body, restoring the car's performance.

Thanks a lot for your quick reply! I have a question: how did you identify the throttle body as the problem? Did you also experience rough engine idling? Also, did it affect your fuel efficiency? I'm trying to avoid unnecessary repair costs, so any insights would be great!

Yes, rough engine idling and decreased fuel efficiency were definitely part of the problem. I initially suspected the air intake, but after some research, I realized it was more likely the throttle body itself. To be sure, I recommend getting it checked by a mechanic. They can properly diagnose the issue and tell you if it needs replacing. It could save you money in the long run.

I took my Octavia to the workshop, and you were spot on. The throttle body was causing all the trouble. They replaced it, and the car is running smoothly again. The bill came to around 265€, which I think is reasonable. Thanks again for your help!

Sounds like a faulty throttle body. I had similar symptoms on my Octavia. Reduced power and the check engine light illuminated. The throttle body controls the air flow into the engine, and if it's malfunctioning, it will definitely impact fuel efficiency and engine idling.
