Skoda Octavia Diesel Overheating
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Skoda Octavia diesel is experiencing overheating issues, particularly in traffic, with the radiator fan suspected to be defective. The check engine light appears intermittently, possibly due to a faulty speed sensor preventing the fan from activating. After checking the coolant level and considering other potential causes like the thermal switch, the speed sensor was identified and replaced, resolving the overheating problem and eliminating the check engine light.

Interesting. Where exactly is the thermal switch located, and is there a way to test it without specialized tools? Was that what was defective in your car?

Yes, the thermal switch was the culprit in my case. It's usually located near the thermostat housing, or somewhere on the radiator itself. As for testing, you could try checking for continuity with a multimeter when the engine is hot, but honestly, it's probably best to just take it to a workshop. They can diagnose the cooling system properly and confirm if that's the issue.

It was the speed sensor causing the car overheating. Replaced it, and the fan motor is now working. No more check engine light either. Total cost was about 250€.

Sounds like you've got a similar cooling system issue to what I experienced with my Renault Megane a while back. Did you check the thermal switch? It could be faulty and not triggering the fan motor when the engine temperature rises.
