Skoda Octavia Diesel Transmission Issue

I have a question regarding my 2002 Skoda Octavia, equipped with a diesel engine. The vehicle has a recorded mileage of 38460 km. I have recently encountered a problem that I believe may be related to the transmission oil pressure sensor. The symptoms include the illumination of the engine warning light and an error in the error memory. Furthermore, the gearbox is operating in emergency mode, and I have observed instances of the gearbox slipping or shifting uncleanly, accompanied by grinding noises during gear changes. Based on my preliminary research, I suspect that the gearbox oil level may be too low. Could this be a plausible explanation for the observed symptoms?

Whoa, sounds rough! Gearbox in emergency mode is never good. First thing I'd check is definitely the oil level like you suspect. Is the pressure gauge showing anything unusual? A sensor fault can be triggered by low oil pressure. You should check the oil level immediately. Also, when was the last time the transmission oil was changed?

The pressure gauge doesn't seem to be showing anything out of the ordinary, but it's difficult to be certain. Where exactly is the transmission oil level indicator on my Octavia? I am not certain where to locate it to perform the check.

Yeah, it really does sound like low oil. If the level is fine, then the sensor itself is probably faulty, or there's an issue with the oil pump not providing enough oil pressure. Given the emergency mode and grinding, I'd strongly advise getting it checked by a workshop. Continuing to drive it could cause serious damage.

I appreciate the help. The problem was exactly as described. The garage confirmed the transmission oil level was low. After a top-up and a new transmission oil pressure sensor, the issues are resolved. The final bill came to 365€.
