Skoda Octavia Electric Steering Column Problem

I have a problem with my 2001 Skoda Octavia diesel. The electric steering column adjustment stopped working. The diagnostic system shows an error in the electric adjustment mechanism. The steering column can't be adjusted electrically. I think there's a problem with the cable or plug connection. Has anyone had this issue before? Any ideas?

I understand the issue. I had a similar steering problem on my old BMW 5 Series, but it was a different system. The error pointed to the electric adjustment, and the column was stuck. Did you check the fuses? Also, try gently moving the column while adjusting it. Sometimes, a simple obstruction can cause the error. Is there any noise when you try to adjust it, like clicking or grinding?

Thanks for the suggestion. I checked the fuses, and they're fine. I tried to manually adjust the column while activating the electric adjustment, but it didn't work. There's no noise. What do you mean by 'mechanical obstruction'? Where should I look?

By 'mechanical obstruction', I meant something blocking the column's movement, like debris. But since you tried moving it manually and there's no noise, that's less likely. My BMW had a broken wire in the steering column. Since the error is stored and you checked the fuses, a workshop should check the wiring and connections. It sounds like a professional diagnosis is needed.

Sincere thanks for the insightful response and shared experiences. Following the recommendation, I took the car to a workshop. They found a defective cable connection, as suspected. The electric steering column adjustment is working again, and it cost 95€. Your help sped things up.
