Skoda Octavia engine power loss

I am experiencing an issue with my 2004 Skoda Octavia, gasoline engine, and I am seeking some assistance. I have noticed a significant reduction in engine power, and the check engine light is now illuminated. The engine runs rough, and it jerks noticeably when accelerating. I suspect the engine is running too lean. I have already checked the throttle body for any obvious issues, but it appears to be clean. Could a defective injection valve/injector be the likely culprit? I am concerned about the catalytic converter as well, since a lean running engine can overheat it.

Summary of the thread

A 2004 Skoda Octavia is experiencing significant engine power loss, rough running, and jerking during acceleration, with the check engine light illuminated. The suspected cause is the engine running too lean, potentially due to a defective fuel injector. After checking the throttle body and considering the oxygen sensor, the issue was confirmed to be faulty fuel injectors, which were replaced, resolving the problem.

That sounds frustrating! I had a similar issue with my Octavia. Reduced power and rough running are no fun. Have you checked the oxygen sensor? A faulty sensor can mess with the air-fuel ratio and cause the engine to run lean. It's a relatively inexpensive part to replace, so it might be worth a try before you start looking at more expensive components.

Thank you for the suggestion! The oxygen sensor seemed fine when I checked it, but I'll double-check. Did you experience jerking when accelerating? And did the check engine light come on in your case as well?

Yes, the jerking was definitely there, especially when trying to accelerate quickly. And the check engine light was constantly on. I tried cleaning the fuel injectors myself, but it didn't solve the problem. Eventually, I had to take it to a workshop. They confirmed that the injectors were faulty and needed replacing. It might be best to get a professional diagnosis to be sure, as problems with the air-fuel ratio can be tricky.

Thank you for your insights! I took it to a workshop, and it turned out to be a defective fuel injector, just as suspected. All four injectors were replaced, and the engine is running smoothly again. The repair cost me 515€, but it was worth it to have my Octavia back in top shape.
