Skoda Octavia Hybrid Transmission Issues

I'm getting seriously frustrated with my 2021 Skoda Octavia hybrid. Lately, the engine warning light keeps coming on, and sometimes the transmission warning light as well. I've noticed the gearbox sometimes slips or shifts uncleanly, and occasionally, there's even a grinding noise when shifting gears. A couple of times, it's gone into emergency mode, which is really annoying. The error memory says something about a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. Could this be related to the gear shifting issues? Any ideas what might be going on? I'm dreading a huge transmission repair bill!

Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my Octavia (not the hybrid version, though) a while back. Gearbox acting up, engine light on. Did you check the gearbox oil level? Low oil can definitely cause those symptoms, especially the slipping and grinding. Also, a faulty gearbox sensor could trigger the emergency mode. Have you scanned the car for error codes?

Thanks for the quick reply! I did scan the car and it showed an error related to the transmission oil temperature sensor. I haven't checked the gearbox oil level myself though. Where exactly is the dipstick located, and is it easy to check? I'm not the most mechanically inclined, to be honest. Could the low oil level really cause the sensor to fail, or is it just a coincidence?

Okay, if you're getting a transmission oil temperature sensor error, and you're experiencing those symptoms, it's highly likely they're connected. I wouldn't recommend checking the oil level yourself if you're not comfortable with it; messing with the transmission can be tricky. In my case, the low oil level caused the sensor to overheat and eventually fail. Best bet is to take it to a reliable workshop. They can properly diagnose the issue, check the oil level, replace the gearbox sensor if needed and advise on a possible transmission repair.

Just wanted to let you know. The workshop visit confirmed your thoughts! It was the gearbox oil level, and the transmission oil temperature sensor was faulty because of it. They did a transmission repair, replaced the sensor, and topped up the oil. Gear shifting is smooth again, and the emergency mode is gone! Cost me 365€, but it's worth it to have my Octavia back in top shape. Thanks again for your help!
