Skoda Octavia Immobilizer problem

I am experiencing an immobilizer issue with my 2001 Skoda Octavia, gasoline engine. The engine either fails to start, or starts briefly before cutting out. Error memory indicates a potential immobilizer fault, suggesting incorrect key programming. Thoughts?

Sounds like the anti-theft system is active. Does the key symbol illuminate on the dash? It could be a key signal issue or a fault in the ignition control module. Have you tried the spare key?

The key symbol does illuminate. The spare key does the same thing. Do I need diagnostic to confirm a fault in the ignition control module?

Likely the key programming then, since both keys have the same problem. Diagnostic is helpful but given the symptoms, it points to a key/immobilizer mismatch. Best bet is to take it to someone who can reprogram the key.

Problem solved. The immobilizer key signal was the cause. Key programming at a local workshop fixed it. Total cost was 45€ Thanks for the help.
