Skoda Octavia Multifunction Steering Wheel Issue

I'm experiencing an issue with my 2020 Skoda Octavia with a gasoline engine. The multifunction steering wheel has stopped working completely. It’s like the steering controls are completely dead. Vehicle diagnostics show an error stored in the error memory. I suspect the likely cause is a defective cable connection in the steering wheel itself. The repair cost should be around 95€. Has anyone else encountered a similar steering column problem? Any advice would be appreciated!

Sounds like a connectivity problem. Is the error message always present, or does it come and go? Have you checked the fuses related to the steering controls?

Thanks for your reply! The error is always present. I haven't checked the fuses yet. I'm not very familiar with vehicle diagnostics – could you explain where I can find the fuse box and which fuses are relevant for the multifunction steering?

Okay, if the error is constant, the fuse is less likely to be the issue, but it's still worth checking. The fuse box location is usually in the driver's footwell or under the hood, check your owner's manual for the exact location. The manual should also identify the specific fuses related to the steering controls or infotainment system which often controls the multifunction steering. However, given the predicted repair cost and the constant error, it does sound like the cable connection is the culprit. Probably best to take it to the workshop.

The workshop confirmed a defective cable connection in the steering wheel. They replaced it, and the steering controls are working again. The final bill was 95€, as predicted. Thanks for the help!
