Skoda Octavia Overheating Issue

I'm experiencing a rather concerning issue with my 2006 Skoda Octavia gasoline engine, with 179832 km on the clock. The engine is overheating, and it's also taking a frustratingly long time to reach its normal operating temperature. I suspect it might be a defective thermostat cooling circuit motor. From my research, a defective map thermostat seems like the most probable cause. Has anyone dealt with something similar? I'm trying to gauge what I'm up against here in terms of repair costs and potential complications.

Sounds familiar. I had a similar overheating issue with my Octavia. Have you checked the temperature sensor? That was the culprit in my case.

Thanks for the quick reply! Where exactly is the temperature sensor located, and how did you diagnose it as the issue? Was your engine also taking longer to warm up?

Yes, the engine taking longer to warm up was definitely part of it. Honestly, I didn't do the diagnosis myself. I took it to a workshop, and they identified the faulty temperature sensor. Considering the symptoms, it's probably best to get it checked by a professional.

Problem solved! It was indeed the map thermostat, as suspected. The whole thermostat housing was replaced. Cost me around 350€, but the temperature control is back to normal now. Thanks a lot for pointing me in the right direction!
