Skoda Octavia rough running issue

Alright, petrolheads, I'm at my wit's end with my 2001 Skoda Octavia (gasoline engine). She's only got 39979 km on the clock, but recently she's been running really rough. The engine stalls at idle sometimes, and the check engine light is mocking me. When I accelerate, it feels like the car is jerking. I've already checked the spark plug, which looked fine. My gut tells me it's the ignition coil. Could a defective cable or plug connection be the culprit?

Sounds like you're on the right track. Rough running, stalling, check engine light, and jerking are classic symptoms of a misfire. Since you've already looked at the spark plug, the ignition coil is the next logical suspect. Have you checked the cable and plug connection to the coil itself? Sometimes a loose or corroded connection can cause similar issues. What error code did the vehicle diagnostics throw?

Yeah, I did a quick visual inspection of the cable and plug connection, but didn't see anything obvious. Is there a specific way to properly check the connection? Maybe with a multimeter or something? I'm not sure about the error code, since my reader is quite basic.

Yep, a multimeter is your friend there. You can check for continuity in the wiring. But honestly, if you're not 100% comfortable with that, it might be worth taking it to a workshop. It does sound like an ignition coil issue. They can pinpoint it quickly with proper vehicle diagnostics, especially since you're seeing all the classic symptoms. Best not to risk making it worse!

Just wanted to close this one. Turns out you were spot on. Took it to a mechanic and after vehicle diagnostics, they confirmed a defective ignition coil. The cable connection was indeed faulty, just like you thought. Replaced the coil, cost me 95€, and now she's running like a dream! Seriously appreciate the help!
