Skoda Octavia RS Combi check engine light illuminated
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Skoda Octavia RS Combi is experiencing issues such as black smoke during acceleration, an illuminated check engine light, rough engine performance, jerking during acceleration, power loss, and high fuel consumption. The initial suspicion is a problem with the lambda sensor heater. However, a similar case with a Skoda Superb pointed to a faulty engine control unit as the cause, which was costly to replace. It is advised to seek a professional diagnosis to confirm the issue and consider obtaining a second opinion to explore potentially less expensive solutions.

Thank you for your answer. My Octavia has already done 101234 kilometers and the last service was recently. Now that you mention it, it really could be the engine control unit, because the symptoms are similar. I'm sure I won't be able to enjoy the 1000 euros for much longer... That would of course be a real downer. But I'll follow your advice and have someone who really knows their stuff look at it. Thank you!

Hey, well, if your Skoda already has over 100,000 kilometers on it, it could definitely be a number of things - the car has been through a lot. Service appointments are important to keep the car olé la, but at that mileage, things could just be failing due to wear and tear. The engine control unit could certainly be the problem, as it was mine too. If it gets fixed, your car could be like new again. But I agree, the 1000 euros is a lot of money... However, before you spend the money, I would get a second opinion if I were you. It could also be due to other things that might be cheaper to repair. Good luck with that! Hope you end up getting it cheaper than you think.

Thanks for the detailed advice! Yes, I will definitely get a second opinion before I spend so much money. I just hope it's nothing really serious and I can get the car going again soon. Your advice has been very helpful and has reminded me not to jump to conclusions. Thanks again for your help!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2009 Skoda Superb. I'm not a car expert, but I do have some experience. My car had a faulty engine control unit, which was a bummer as it wasn't exactly cheap. My garage gave me an estimate of just under 1000 euros. In the end, after I had spent hours with the mechanic, we had to replace the engine control unit. So far, my car is running like new again. It could be the same problem for you, but I can't tell you exactly without precise vehicle information (e.g. mileage, service history, etc.). If you have more details, I would be happy to help.
